How do I file a claim?
There are several ways to begin the process of filing for social security disability. One way you can start the process is by calling or visiting a local social security office. If you visit the local social security office, you will likely have to wait in line for quite a while. If you call the local office on the telephone, you will likely encounter a busy signal. We do not recommend this method. A better method is to call the national social security phone number. While we do not recomend using this number for any other purpose, we do recommend this as a good way to get the application process started. The national phone number is 1-800-772-1213. People who are comfortable using the internet may find the third method more appealing. Simply go to the Social Security Administration’s website and follow the instructions found on the homepage.
Regardless of which of the three above methods are used for getting the process started, the next step will be completing an application. Social security personnel will assist you with this process. Answer their questions as best you can and get the process completed as quickly as possible. The application process is complete when you sign and return a completed application to the Social Security Adminstration.
